Right now, my middle schooler is working on memorizing Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky," and they already want to change some of the lines to work better with the adaptation of Through the Looking Glass where Alice is the hero rather than this guy's son. While it made me laugh, it also made me think of other monumental poems that we've studied over the years.
One of my favorites was Beowulf, which we were also able to see explained through funny Internet videos. This week I came across this post about "The Fairie Queen," which I totally forgot about and know we need to add to our to-read list together. We've read Gilgamesh, The Illiad and The Odyssey, but they were all abridged and we might want to revisit them later.
What epic poems do you think are must-reads? Which ones are your favorites of all time? Share them in the chat.
